[Article in Serbian]Jokanovic V. Dom zdravlja Novi Sad, Novi Sad. "Kanjiza" spa was founded in 1903. It was an artesian bath at the beginning, but gradually it has grown into a modern rehabilitation center. Much of its existence the spa owes to Herman Gruenfeld, a local businessman who was the first one to invest in development of natural resources in medical purposes. In this work the author reviews some earlier analyses of the chemical composition of water in Kanjiza spa. Procedures are illustrated as well as laboratory findings in Budapest and Belgrade. The author brings to attention the current condition of certain parts of the Spa, which are supposed to be under governmental care and protection. Many of the older building are in bad condition. Trees are damaged in the park, and little has been renewed lately. This paper emphasizes the diversity and efficiency of medical procedures performed by 150 members of the team lead by 10 doctors, and many problems and hardships they successfully face in the health system of Serbia. Due to unpredicted circumstances the centennial anniversary of Kanjiza spa was not marked depriving the public of rare opportunity to recognize efforts and accomplishments of this many aspects unique institution belonging to the very top medical centers specialized in rehabilitation in our country. |

Edificio ISCTE Av. das Forcas Armadas 1600-083 - Lisboa, Portugal. maria-quintela@clix.pt Based on nineteenth - and twentieth-century texts, the article discusses how medicine legitimized the therapeutic practice of thermalism as so-called 'scientific' knowledge, with the creation of therapeutic establishments and hot-springs resort. My research began in Portugal in 1996, where I produced an ethnography of experiences at the Sao Pedro do Sul hot springs. My research at Brazil's Caldas da Imperatriz, initiated in August 2001, is still underway. |

From the history of the Split hot
springs] [Parks and hydro-mineral springs in the classical world and in the contemporary era. Place in therapeutics] [Article in Italian] Grossi F. Dipartimento di Medicina Termale, Climatica e Ambientale. Accademia di Storia dell'Arte Sanitaria, Roma. Are briefly remembered the healing significances of woods and springs--together and separately--in ancient times. At first there were religions cults of them (health Goods, water and woods deities, temples, etc.). Subsequently there were their medicinal, lay uses especially of water. The Spas and Thermae of ancient Rome are well known. Importance in therapeutics of parks and gardens around Spas begins in XVIII century, in Europe. Greater care of parks close mineral waters springs was taken in XIX century, in North America (U.S.A., Canada). Here their importance in Ecology and Medical Hydrology was stressed. Today the use and diffusion of thermal parks can be proposed in order to environmental Psychology and to environmental Therapeutics. Publication Types: |
